September:
- students review laboratory safety rules and the scientific inquiry process
- students begin the unit on Cells
- chapter 1: cell theory, and parts of the microscope and their functions
- students learn how to use a microscope properly and how to prepare different types of slides
October:
- students continue with chapter 1: differences between plant and animal cells, and types of cellular transport
- students develop observation skills during investigations that involve diffusion and osmosis, and apply their knowledge of concepts to draw particle diagrams
November:
- chapter 2: unicellular and multicellular organisms
- mini-assignment: cell analogy (details provided in class)
- chapter 3: organization of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems
December:
- Cells unit test
- Cell Biology newspaper assignment (details provided in class)
January:
- students begin the unit on Systems in Action
- chapter 4: force, work, and energy
February:
